Kay H. Lin :: statement

Comprise

Add a handful of salt to a bowl of water, it is too salty to drink.

Add a handful of salt to a river, it is still drinkable.

Let life’s happiness, anger, sadness, joy, fill our heart like a river.

Let my painting fill a power of the creating process that consists
of our life with a peace of love that always . . .

                                                                     . . . flows and endures.

                                                                                   April, 2008

Through Logic  (1992 – 1994)

Through Distance (1995 – 1997)

The logic of the painting creates my space and distance.  Through the distance, think much more and live more simply.

Mountain (1998)

In the air, high and low, look up and facing down, and when the mountain, water, sky all meet the end,

that remains . . .

Exchange (1999)

The relationship between two things: crossing, contrasting or against, but depending on each other and finding a balance.

Starry Night (2000)

Look at the time passing by in the universe.  Thinking of Van Gogh’s struggle and sadness. And the feeling of being an immigrant far away from home . . .

Like Flower Like Butterfly (2001)

    Flower is not a flower

    Mist is not the mist

Come in the middle of night

Leave in the early morning dawn

    When comes,

Just like a spring wind – comes not often

    When gone,

Just like early morning clouds – hard to find

Through Horizon, Sing Forever (2002 – 2003)

I drag myself inside Baroque music.  Hide myself, dancing, screaming, with the high and strong tone of the music that could suddenly break down.  I am buried myself into the jumping notes.  And finally, I see the beauty and find a peaceful, quiet color that I can paint on, with fresh calm air that I can breathe deeply.

Through the horizon’s edge, for my creation; it is just a piece of feeling . . .

Path Through (2004 – 2005)

I follow the path. I see the line of life.

A line that divides and also connects.

Through life, I am deconstructing myself here and in between.

In Between (2006)

There is a flower that blooms during the day and dies in the night.

There is a mountain over there after a hundred years and still.

There is the light, the space that creates my abstract painting

with the moment that I am blossoming like a flower, but I am ready

to die, or maybe I will be here like a mountain, forever and still.

To Believe (2007)

In the day, seeing hundreds sparkling motes through a ray of light.

Just like seeing hundreds twinkling stars in the night and even closer.

Unlike the stars that live far up in the sky,

they are in the air although I could not hold them tight.

But the beauty of their shining still creates my painting with

the moment of imagining dreams and making wishes down here.  To Believe.

Do Re Mi Fa Sol La Ti (2008)

Seven notes that create the music

Red Orange Yellow Green Blue Indigo Violet

Seven colors that create the light

Let the rainbow be my color; let the music be my stroke

Carry that voice through the sunlight into the sky; until the rest of heaven
